Since the beginning of time, soil has an inseparable relationship with us, carrying the memories of different lives and cultures. Can we still create memories from soil today?

Designer Niko Leung actively explores the potential of soil as a material for architecture and product design, telling the unique stories of soil in Hong Kong. In the Camp, the artist-instructor will guide you to explore the relationship between soil and local communities, understanding how this ubiquitous material records personal memories and preserves them for future generations. Participants will experiment with how this commonly found material can be transformed into various forms and sizes, attempting to integrate personal memories to create clay works.

In your everyday life or during the process of creating works, are you often caught in the loop of ‘what-ifs’, stopping you from taking action? Is there another way of making art that let us act before we think?

Artist Tang Kwok Hin excels at capturing subtle inspirations from everyday life and telling personal stories through different found objects. In the Camp, the artist-instructor will guide you to shift the thinking pattern and overcome overthinking, responding to selected objects in our daily life. You will take concrete actions and wait for the responses. Working with different media, you will transform your ideas into materials that narrate your living stories. You will reflect on the thoughts that surface during the process only after completing the works. Through this exploration of connecting seemingly unconscious choices with personal memories, you will give form to nameless thoughts and feelings, discovering more possibilities for expressing yourself through artistic language.

How can sound, image, and storytelling help us uncover unrecorded ideas within communities and transform them into collective narratives that resonate with the public?

Artist duo Dorothy Wong Ka Chung and Benjamin Ryser love to explore and document universal public spaces in cities across different countries, such as supermarkets and playgrounds. In this activity, the artist-instructors will lead you on a journey starting from the museum, guiding you through an image-and-sound walk to uncover the stories of the people within. Through interviews and exchange of personal narratives, you will learn to explore your own connections to the community and rediscover familiar spaces by observing the ordinary and repetitive paths of daily life from the perspectives of images and sound. Through observation and exploration of lingering memories in everyday life, you will reinterpret and present our shared urban landscape, bringing new insights to observe the city.
